4 Types Of Wood Ideal For Furnishings

While there are many tree species, not all are ideal for furniture and home decor. Here are four wood types you can choose from for your home.

Timber, or hardwood, is essential for making all sorts of household items. These can range from furniture, cooking utensils, cabinetry, small decorative accents, and structures that hold a home together. Some hardwood types are also durable against weather changes, making them a sustainable source of furnishings. Others have unique patterns that add aesthetic appeal to your space.

In the Philippines, you’ll find an array of trees that produce beautiful and hardy timber perfect for any home aesthetic. Take a look at these four wood types you might want to get for your new condo unit, house, or office space.

4 Types Of Wood Ideal For Furnishings

Narra

Yes, the national tree of the Philippines is a popular timber used in furnishings. It is a favorite of many due to its sturdiness and resistance to decay and termite infestation. Narra trees also have unique colors ranging from yellowish to purplish. Their wood can also be stained to suit different furniture and decor types. Narra furniture sets can last many years and are often passed down from generation to generation.

While Narra wood is durable and beautiful, its tree species is considered endangered in the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia. Hence, it can be quite expensive to buy Narra furnishings and find a sustainable source of Narra wood.

4 Types Of Wood Ideal For Furnishings

Bamboo

If you are looking for something sturdy and more affordable, bamboo wood is the right choice. While bamboo is not a tree, its stiff stems provide structural support ideal for cabinetry, furniture sets, and even houses and other buildings. Plus, certain bamboo species can withstand humidity and other weather conditions.

Bamboo also grows fast, so they are a sustainable source of materials for furnishings and decor. This tall grass is also an essential part of Feng Shui and Japanese Zen gardens. Residents of The Rise Makati may use bamboo furnishings and decor to match their modern Zen-like interiors.

4 Types Of Wood Ideal For Furnishings

Molave

Also called Tugas in some locations, Molave is considered one of the hardest woods in the Philippines. Its firmness makes it suitable for furniture sets and household items and for building ships, window frames, and structural posts. Molave trees have fine textures, which is why their hardwood is smooth to the touch.

Like Narra, Molave trees are pretty expensive since they are becoming increasingly rare due to excessive logging. Consider shops that sell secondhand furniture, and you might find Molave-made goods for lower prices.

4 Types Of Wood Ideal For Furnishings

Pine

Pine timber is another durable and cheaper alternative to Narra and Molave hardwood. It is also lightweight, so moving a pine coffee table or bench in your home will be more manageable.

Buying a pine furniture set is also convenient as its color can match any existing wooden items you have at home. It is also resistant to wearing out, making it a worthy investment that can last a lifetime. Plus, you won’t need to live in Baguio City to enjoy such beautiful hardwood. Even homes in bustling cities like Makati City can have more aesthetic appeal with pine furnishings.

These four timber types are just some of the wood materials excellent for furnishings. Research which one will fit your budget and design goals. You’ll want your home to be stylish and practical while utilizing Mother Nature’s gifts.

4 HERITAGE SITES TO VISIT IN MAKATI https://pr.thehappytrip.com/4-heritage-sites-to-visit-in-makati/ https://pr.thehappytrip.com/4-heritage-sites-to-visit-in-makati/#respond Fri, 23 Apr 2021 08:44:06 +0000 http://pr.thehappytrip.com/?p=134

St Peter and Paul Church |  Makati City is a bustling metropolis with these four heritage sites that highlight the city’s historic and cultural past.

Where In Makati: 4 Heritage Sites To Visit

Makati City is a melting pot of industries, education, and the sophisticated urban lifestyle. For decades, people have flocked to Makati to seek better opportunities in their employment and business ventures. Parents also choose to live in this city so they can send their kids to premiere educational institutions here. Makati’s continuous development has changed its course and will continue to shape its future.

Despite being a contemporary hub of buildings and busy roads, Makati continues to preserve historic traces of its colonial past. Amidst the modern skyscrapers, you’ll find these four heritage sites you might want to visit during your next trip.

Old Poblacion

Nowadays, the Poblacion district (also called Pob)  is known for its restaurants, coffee shops, and co-working spaces. Neighboring malls and offices accentuate Poblacion’s contemporary vibe, which starkly contrasts with its old roots.

Back then, Pob was the first settlement and commercial center of Makati City, predating the Makati Central Business District for 200 hundred years. Old photos show what Pob used to be: a downtown outlined with Spanish-style homes, communal facilities, and ancient churches. You’ll realize that the real estate of Pob back then is in stark comparison now with the city’s modern developments, such as Rockwell Center, Century City, and houses for sale at Forbes Park.

Nonetheless, Pob’s evolution from its colonial past to its modern vibe reflects how far Makati has grown in terms of economic and cultural progress.

The Guadalupe Ruins

Housed within the Poblacion district lies the Guadalupe Ruins, or canonically known as the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Church. You’ll notice that the 400-year-old church’s massive buttresses and beautiful Doric architecture are still intact, perfectly contrasting with the rest of Makati’s cityscape.

The Guadalupe Ruins is a favorite venue for weddings for many Manila inhabitants. It is perhaps due to the church’s ancient structure which adds an antique feel to photos, especially when uploaded on social media pages.

Saints Peter and Paul Church

Another church to visit in Makati is the Saints Peter and Paul Church D.M Rivera Street, also in Poblacion. Known as San Pedro Macati Church to the locals, this church has a traditional Spanish-style architecture characterized by a rectangular nave, arches, vaults, and sacristy.

While the rest of the church remains preserved, parts of it were destroyed and renovated for other purposes. For example, the former church graveyard is now the Plaza Cristo Rey, a venue for cultural events.

Museo ng Makati

If you want to explore all sorts of memorabilia preserving Makati’s past, take a trip to the Museo ng Makati. Built-in 1918, the museum houses various ethnographic artifacts, archeological finds, prehistoric earthenware, and animal fossils. You’ll also find a collection of rare photographs, dioramas, and murals showcasing Makati’s history and culture.

Overall, the city of Makati is a melting pot of history, culture, and modern developments. Condos and malls may have dominated the city’s urbanscape but that doesn’t mean its heritage sites are gone and forgotten. Plan your next Makati trip post-pandemic and add these four historic places to your itinerary.

CEBU PACIFIC: NO MORE REBOOKING FEES https://pr.thehappytrip.com/cebu-pacific-no-more-rebooking-fees/ https://pr.thehappytrip.com/cebu-pacific-no-more-rebooking-fees/#respond Wed, 03 Mar 2021 04:50:58 +0000 http://pr.thehappytrip.com/?p=130

Cebu Pacific Permanently Removes Rebooking/Change Fees

Passengers can now rebook as many times as they need

The Philippines’ leading carrier Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB) permanently removes change fees, allowing passengers to rebook as many times as they need. The carrier believes that flexibility is critical in restoring passenger confidence in air travel.

“In a recent survey we conducted, flexibility remains to be one of the considerations of our passengers when deciding to travel again. Because of this, we are removing our change fee effective immediately. As we work on rebuilding our network and supporting domestic tourism, we will continue to listen to our passengers so we can make it even more convenient for everyjuan to fly again,” said Candice Iyog, CEB Vice President for Marketing and Customer Experience.

With the removal of change fees, passengers may now rebook their flights as many times as they need at no cost. A minimal fare difference may still apply.

The IATF has recently released a new set of simplified requirements for domestic travel which states that travel authorities and health certificates will no longer be needed. Quarantine protocols will also be only required for those showing symptoms.

“This is a timely announcement as well, as we support the recent IATF announcement on the standardized travel requirements, and as we celebrate our 25th founding anniversary this month,” added Iyog.

Passengers may conveniently manage their bookings online through the “Manage Booking” portal on the Cebu Pacific website: http://bit.ly/CEBmanageflight. Simply log in using your Getgo account, if applicable, or enter your booking reference to access your booking online. Bookings can be modified up to two (2) hours before the flight.

Passengers may also easily update their contact information and addresses, as well as correct misspelled names, nationality, birthdays, and salutations through the same portal. Those who booked their CEB flights via travel agencies must coordinate requests through their respective agents.

Apart from this new policy, CEB also has an ongoing PHP 25 month-long seat sale on top of other exciting deals in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Visit www.cebupacificair.com and follow Cebu Pacific Air on its official social media accounts for more information.

Ford Ranger: A mobility partner for work, play, and everything in between

We tried again the Ford Ranger’s power in our latest trip to Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB) and Calatrava Negros Occidental. We assisted our friend Mr. Lito Salvio, a former executive of Negros Navigation Company, in transporting construction materials for the renovation of his resort at DSB. Not only that, but we also loaded the truck with sweet pineapples that are a popular product of the town. Since I was with my two other “plantito” friends, we never missed the opportunity to buy loads of ornamental plants abundant in the place. Yes, it was a very productive weekend getaway but loaded with fun and excitement. So, read on as I share with you our fantastic weekend getaway with For Ranger.

With CG Hisona and Engimear Tupas at DSB

One of the hottest global trends in the auto industry is the growing popularity of pickup trucks as lifestyle vehicles. In the U.S., several pickups are now the top-selling vehicles in the country’s luxury market.

Once the tool of choice for people whose business required heavy towing, payload, and off-roading, pickup trucks like the Ford Ranger have evolved into modern lifestyle vehicles that offer the same comfort and technologies as cars, but with the versatility and toughness to function as a workhorse, business partner, family vehicle, and anything in-between. Work or play, the modern pickup truck is the ultimate expression of independence and local enterprise.

About Ford Ranger and Ford Philippines

Ford Philippines launched the new model of the Ford Ranger in 2018, equipped with enhanced power, performance, and smart and safe features. In the same year, Ford also launched the first-ever Ranger Raptor, combining Ford Performance DNA with the Ranger’s renowned ‘Built Ford Tough’ character and capability to set a new benchmark in high-speed, off-road pickup capability.

Ford Ranger: Tough and Smart

The new Ranger offers a choice of three diesel powertrains to deliver greater versatility and meet consumer demands for a wider variety of requirements. These include the new generation 2.0L Bi-Turbo and 2.0L Turbo engines, and the Ranger’s proven 2.2L TDCi engine.

The new Ranger also boasts of advanced smart and safe features such as the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) feature, which helps mitigate risks by detecting pedestrians and vehicles, alerting drivers with an audible and visual warning. The new Ranger is also equipped with Active Park Assist (APA), which helps the driver find parallel parking spaces and steers itself to a parking spot. All the driver needs to do is control the throttle and brake.

The new Ranger is also the Adaptive Cruise Control feature, which senses traffic and automatically adjusts speed. Meanwhile, the Lane Departure Warning feature vibrates the steering wheel if the driver unintentionally moves out of his/her lane at a certain speed.

Loading is easier than ever on the Ranger XLT and Wildtrak variants with the introduction of Tailgate Lift Assist. With a new internal mechanism, the Ranger’s tailgate is now lighter to lift, with a 70 percent reduction in initial force required to raise it for closing.

The Wildtrak variants also offer the Smart Keyless Entry and push-button start and up to six airbags ensuring maximum convenience and safety. The new Ranger also offers the SYNC3 feature compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers to make calls, select music, and use apps with eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

Ford Ranger Raptor: Power and Performance

The Ranger Raptor is equipped with a new 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel engine that delivers a maximum of 213PS of power and 500Nm of torque. The Ford-designed and Ford-built 10-speed automatic transmission has been created with high-strength steel, aluminum alloys, and composites to optimize durability and weight.

The Ranger Raptor features distinctive design cues inside and out that are functionally driven. At the front, a stunning new grille takes styling cues from the F-150 Raptor with the iconic block FORD lettering proudly positioned within the grille design.

Inside, the Ranger Raptor offers a tailored Ford Performance DNA interior design with a high level of craftsmanship, harmonious colors, and durable materials suitable for both off-road driving and everyday use. The seats are specially designed for off-road high-speed performance support.

The Ranger Raptor’s chassis frame is a new unique frame that is specifically designed for the vehicle to travel at high speeds off-road. The Ranger Raptor’s Position Sensitive Damping (PSD) shock absorbers are exclusively manufactured by FOX, designed to provide higher damping forces at full jounce and rebound to enable better off-road capabilities.

The Ranger Raptor’s Terrain Management System (TMS) includes the Baja mode, inspired by Mexico’s famous Baja Desert Rally, and enables ultra-responsive, high-speed off-road performance. In this mode, vehicle systems like Traction Control are pared back to allow spirited off-road driving without intervention from the vehicle’s on-board systems.

Ranger Raptor comes with a host of advanced Driver Assist Technologies (DATs) such as SYNCÒ 3, a fully integrated, voice activation system that lets the driver use their favorite devices while their hands stay on the wheel and eyes on the road. Ford’s comprehensive Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system also helps in difficult cornering and braking situations.

New enhancements to the Ranger lineup

Earlier this year, Ford Philippines introduced a series of enhancements and upgrades to its entire Ranger lineup. Ranger XLS variants now come with a new 8-inch LCD touchscreen radio with Apple Carplay and Android Auto Capability. A new Ranger XLS Sport 4×2 A/T variant is added to the Ranger XLS products available to customers. Ranger XLT variants also come with a new 8-inch LCD touchscreen radio with Apple Carplay and Android Auto Capability.

Meanwhile, Ranger Wildtrak 4×2 variants now have a new wheel design and LED headlamps. The Wildtrak 4×4 also has a new wheel design, LED headlamps, camera-based Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, and a high-mount USB feature to support various dashcam models. On the other hand, the Ranger Raptor now comes with a camera-based Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, high-mount USB, and LED headlamps.

Boosting pickup portfolio with FX4 and FX4 4×4

Ford also expanded its pickup truck portfolio in January this year with the addition of the Ranger FX4, and in September, the FX4 4×4 variant. Instantly recognizable is the Ranger FX4’s eye-catching design that distinguishes itself across the entire Ranger lineup. Unique 18-inch black alloy wheels, new mesh grille, extended steel sports bar, and ebony black accents on side mirror caps, door handles, front and rear bumpers, and fender features give the Ranger FX4 a distinctive look and style.
On the inside, the Ranger FX4 retains its refined look with FX4-embossed leather seats, FX4-branded floor mats, and a sporty dark environment highlighted by race red stitching accents on the soft top instrument panel, center console, gear shifter, and door trims.

MANNY PACQUIAO DONATES GLOBE ENDORSEMENT SEE TO ROLLY AND ULYSSES VICTIMS

After scoring a brand endorsement agreement with Globe to be its newest brand ambassador, Senator and People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao announced that he is donating his fees to victims of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses. At the recently held contract signing at the Mireio, Raffles Hotel in Makati with Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu and Globe Chairman and Ayala Corporation Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Pacquiao offered to give his earnings to support relief efforts.

“I said yes to Globe because I believe in the company, and I use the company’s services. Not only that, I am given another God-given opportunity to be of help to our kababayans in any way I can. That is why my endorsement fee for this will go to relief efforts to help our kababayans who were affected by the devastation of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.  Ibibigay natin sa mga taong ito ang ating income dito, ibabalik natin sa taumbayan para makatulong ng malaki sa ating mga kababayan na naghihirap at nagugutom ngayon at nawalan ng tahanan. Sama sama tayong babangon, that is my commitment,” said Pacquiao.

The contract signing between Globe and twelve-time, eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao as its brand ambassador was live-streamed on Facebook last night, a new standard for events marketing in the new normal.

“You’re donating the proceeds of the endorsements – I think that’s a very gallant move and one that is so timely given the vast devastation that has occurred in the country today,” said Cu.

For Ayala, “At a time when the country is facing so many challenges, Manny’s life story has remained a source of inspiration for every Filipino even in this time of pandemic – a constant reminder of the Filipino’s strength, talent, and tenacity to overcome every difficulty.”

The partnership with Globe also paves the way for Filipinos from all over the world to see Pacquiao’s upcoming fights live via UPSTREAM, the newest transactional video-on-demand (VOD) platform, and GMovies.

“It is indeed a source of pride to partner with Manny Pacquiao, the People’s Champ. His legendary boxing career is a never-ending source of Pinoy inspiration to always strive to be better,” said Upstream partner Dondon Monteverde. “This same inspiration goes in line with our vision for Upstream to become the best entertainment platform for the Filipino. It is with great privilege and honor that Upstream will air his next fight through live internet streaming to the Filipino people,” Monteverde added.

Also present at the contract signing were Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala, Business Development Head of Ayala Corporation; Issa Cabreira, Globe Consumer Business Group Head; Joe Caliro,

Globe Senior Adviser; Arnold Vegafria, Talent Manager, and Roselle Monteverde, Regal Films Producer.

SUBWAY CUTS ON MARKETING BUDGET IN FAVOR OF NEW MEAT STACK SUB https://pr.thehappytrip.com/subway-cuts-on-marketing-budget-in-favor-of-new-meat-stack-sub/ https://pr.thehappytrip.com/subway-cuts-on-marketing-budget-in-favor-of-new-meat-stack-sub/#respond Thu, 22 Oct 2020 16:48:48 +0000 http://pr.thehappytrip.com/?p=83

Subway® | Low Marketing Budget in favor of the New Meat Stack Sub

It’s good news for Subway® fans and meat lovers. The company will be providing customers with a fully loaded Subway meat stack sub that’s worth your every peso! With layers of chicken strips, pepperoni, sliced Chicken, and salami, the new Meat Stack sub is going to be the perfect choice for meat lovers or anyone with a hearty appetite to enjoy.

But this new menu came with a cost for the international submarine sandwich brand.

Subway disclosed through its FB page that they were “sandwiched” in their budget plans this year as they were left with two options. Was it either to provide more meat to their subs or more budget for marketing?

For Subway, the answer was simple. Subway wanted to provide a hyper value sub (which is a type of sandwich made from a cylindrical bread roll split lengthwise) with fresh meat even with the limited marketing budget that they have.

MORE MEAT, LESS MARKETING

Subway’s Meat Stack Video Ad

Subway launched more meat, less marketing campaign with its low-budget-looking ad to promote its new menu. The ad is 15-seconds long and greets its viewers, stating that an intern on a budget made their “advertisement.”

It then proceeded to show how they created the ad using software that is similar to Microsoft Powerpoint.

Subway even disclosed that they didn't pay for a copywriter to make this happen. And added hashtags such as #LessMarketing4MoreMeat can get the message across the slash in their marketing budget.

THE NEW MEAT STACK SUB

Subway sends a clear message, and that is, they’ve chosen to provide more budget to add more meat for their subs than their marketing campaigns. And they have thrown in a sweet deal of their delicious chocolate chip cookie for only Php20 as an add-on.

For dine-in and take-out, customers can choose between the 6-inch Ala Carte for Php165. Or opt for the 6-inch sub combo with a 16-oz drink for Php190. And if they want to have a full and flavorful experience, customers can choose the Footlong Ala Carte, which is Php320.

Subway also offers customers the chance to taste their fully loaded menu at the comfort of their homes and offices with just a little add-on price for its delivery through the Grab and LalaFood App. And delivery prices will vary depending on the customer’s location.

The 6-inch Ala Carte will be priced at Php 206.25. The 6-inch Combo sub with a 16-oz drink at Php237.50.

The Footlong Ala Carte at Php400 and for the add-on chocolate chip cookie will cost Php25.

You can also check out their 250 Twin Deal, which is a 6-inch Meat Stack Ala Carte plus a 6-inch

Smoked Chicken for the price of Php250.

SUBWAY ENABLES SEAMLESS TRANSACTION WITH “BOTTY” VIA MESSENGER

SUBWAY’s Helpful A.I. for pick-up orders on Messenger, “BOTTY.”

Subway is also enabling and practicing seamless transactions with their helpful chatbot “BOTTY” via Messenger. Subway takes the frustration out of queuing for your meals and dramatically reduces the waiting time. It’s convenient and easy to use BOTTY via Messenger as it works in 3-simple steps: Order, Pay, and Collect!

Once customers have decided on what they’ll have, BOTTY via Messenger will summarize their orders and the total amount to pay.

BOTTY via Messenger will provide customers with an order number and keep them updated on their transactions’ status. BOTTY will then alert them when their order is ready for pick-up. Just provide the payment, and you are ready to go.

SUBWAY® KEEPS IT REAL

The campaign was inspired by existing and real problems of the advertising industries during the COVID- 19 pandemic. Budget cuts for brands and agencies all year round are happening and can limit or put on hold multiple marketing campaigns.

But creativity has always been best exercised during a pinch. And since the Subway Meat Stack holds a lot of value in their meat. It was an exciting angle to ride out and mention: that Subway had put so much meat in the sub that they ran out of marketing budget.

For the campaign’s art direction, Subway wanted it to be “super lo-fi,”; a term for the music or sound where imperfections are deliberately shown. And this was applied as the campaign was done on a non-creative tool or direct presentation software.

While Subway indeed took the joke of using simple presentation software into ads. The campaign isn’t only for humor but also aims to touch on the situation that many advertising agencies face during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The campaign’s result has been precise that with its budget cuts, the product’s real value has been successfully portrayed. And even with limited resources, just by having a good advertising team with limited budgets doesn’t mean that they cannot come together to make a refreshing and fun campaign.

CASH AGAD : YOUR PARTNER TO RECOVERY https://pr.thehappytrip.com/cash-agad-your-partner-to-recovery/ https://pr.thehappytrip.com/cash-agad-your-partner-to-recovery/#respond Tue, 20 Oct 2020 04:54:11 +0000 http://pr.thehappytrip.com/?p=78

Cash Agad: Your partner for recovery

The pandemic had a severe impact on families and communities in the country because of the fear over COVID-19 and how it disrupted their livelihoods. Many

businesses shut down, causing widespread loss of jobs. For those who still had some income

le’, they could not so easily access their cash at banks and ATMs because public transportation was shut down during the lockdown and quarantine periods.

Some residents were fortunate that there were Cash Agad partner agents in their communities who were ready to provide banking services even amid the pandemic. While Cash

Agad partner agents were also affected by the restrictions of the community quarantine; they were still able to help their respective barangays and are now bouncing back and continuing with their recovery to further build their businesses.

The Cash Agad partner agents network is comprised of small to medium business owners in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, who are operating the Cash Agad service in their communities.

This service aims to provide ready access to cash for distant communities, especially those not so easily reached by public transport. These would include communities in places that were located in challenging terrains like mountains, hilly areas, or those in far-flung islands only reachable by boat.

Cash Agad is the solution provided by BDO Unibank to unbanked and 2nancially underserved communities, especially those places where se3ng up a building or bank branch or even an ATMs would prove to be impractical and unfeasible.

Community shops-turned-ATMsA community shop owner (the business might also be a salon, drugstore, hardware store, etc.)

is usually tapped to be Cash Agad partner agent. Since such a business owner has long been part of the locality, has an establishment close to the residents, and is a trusted figure in the community, it’s much easier for the people to trust him or her with their money-related transactions.

Once the shop owner becomes a Cash Agad partner, he or she is given a POS terminal that is capable of accepting transactions using any Philippine-issued ATM card, whether debit or credit.

And even though BDO Unibank is the one that runs the Cash Agad service, the POS terminal accepts ATM cards from all banks in the Philippines.

Simon, Pampanga facilitating a withdrawal transaction

Cash Agad and LGUs

Another advantage of using Cash Agad is that it does not depend on banking hours. As long as the Cash Agad partner shop is open, it can accept the transaction. This was modi2ed; however, when the pandemic struck and community quarantines were imposed. Local o8cial had to set schedules and limit operang hours for Cash Agad transactions in order to follow physical distancing requirements designed to keep customers safe and prevent disease transmission.

Even LGUs depend on Cash Agad to deliver the government’s Financial aid to those in need. For example, the bene2ciaries of 4Ps withdraw their monthly cash assistance from Cash Agad.

Even the IPs or members of the indigenous people’s community are able to get their Financial aid through Cash Agad. All these are possible thanks to the cooperation between LGUs and Cash Agad partner agents.

LGU employees, policemen, and teachers in the community likewise depend on Cash Agad for their salary withdrawals. Private employees, families of overseas Filipinos, all of them now access salaries and remittances from Cash Agad, too.

All of these were a great relief to residents who, for several months during community quarantine, were unable to travel due to lockdowns and checkpoints. Their mobility had been restricted within their own or the nearby barangays. They could no longer go to urban areas to transact with banks or go to ATMs.

Helping local businesses

According to Lorna Taruc, owner of Jan Pau convenience store and Cash Agad partner agent at San Simon, Pampanga, the Cash Agad service is a big help to their community. “It’s so much more convenient and easier for people here to go to my store and withdraw their cash. They no longer need to travel so far. Especially during the lockdown when it was so di8cult to 2nd public transportation. Apart from this, I had more customers buying from my store.”

Meanwhile, another Cash Agad partner agent, Roselyn Abela of Pitogo, Bohol, said that many residents were afraid to leave their town during the community quarantine because they heard the news that there were many COVID-19 cases in the city where they usually go to transact with banks and use ATMs.

This city is quite far from Pitogo. A person traveling there would need to ride a habal-habal (passenger motorcycle) then cross the sea by boat to another island. On the island, he or she would have to ride another habal-habal to reach the city. It takes half a day to an enre day to travel there and back again to Pitogo. A two-way trip costs 500 pesos.

“When the community quarantine was imposed, people were thankful that I have Cash Agad at my store. They withdraw their cash here, and then afterward, they buy some of the essentials they need at home. That’s why my sales at the store also increased,” said Roselyn.

Financial Inclusion

According to Jim Nasol, Head of Agency Banking (Cash Agad) of BDO, the bank has been planning to have Cash Agad partner agents in secluded areas for a long me. This is because they want to help rural areas across the country to be more progressive.

“Many Filipinos are smart and hardworking; they dream of be=er livelihoods. But they are being held back because of their lack of access to cash and capital. There are a lot of Filipinos who don’t have enough money because just withdrawing it already takes a lot of me and a huge expense.”

“Our Cash Agad partner agents are the key to broadening 2nancial systems. We see that in places like Pitogo, 2nancial inclusion can go a long way in making lives easier for Filipinos in secluded communities,” he explained.

In addition, Arnold Katipunan, Head of Sales of Cash Agad in BDO, said that 2nancial inclusion and access to money are very important during this me of the pandemic when many people and businesses need to rise up from the dampening effects of the crisis. Ultimately, their recovery will bring new life to the national economy.

The number of Cash Agad partner agents in the country continue to increase. For more information about Cash Agad, go to the BDO website www.bdo.com.ph/cash-agad or send an email to cashagad@bdo.com.ph.
